Material Science Special Seminar Ⅰ

Graduate School of Engineering, Mr. TERIGELE

In March 2023, I had the opportunity to visit Max Planck Institute and Darmstadt University of Technology in Germany. I visited the research group of sustainable synthesis of Materials in Max Planck Institute in the first week. At the first day, I had a brief discussion with Prof. Dierk Raabe and Dr. Yan Ma. They showed great interest in my work and invited me to present my research at the “Sustainable Metallurgy” seminar to all member of institute. It was an honor and an exceptional opportunity for me to share my ongoing research work with them. During the Q&A session after my presentation, I also gained many insights of the research by talking to the other researchers and PhD students. Additionally, Dr. Yan Ma introduced the research projects being conducted in the institute and discussed potential collaborations for future research. I also had the chance to visit the institute's advanced experimental equipment and electron microscopy tools, including Atom Probe Tomography (APT) and Focused Ion Beam (FIB) technology. It was an invaluable experience that expanded my knowledge and understanding of the field of material science, and I am excited to continue pursuing research in this field.

In the second part of my visit to Germany, I visited TU Darmstadt with other GP-MS students. During our visit, we participated in both scientific and cultural programs. During the scientific program, we presented our ongoing research work, and we were introduced to the research conducted in the labs at TU Darmstadt. Following each presentation, we engaged in interesting discussions, mainly focusing on potential future collaborations. Then, I had the opportunity to take a lab tour at the Division of Functional Materials in Metals and Processing, where Dr. Franziska Scheibel provided me with deeper insights into the research conducted in this lab. She introduced me to some of the advanced experimental devices and equipment, which expanded my knowledge and understanding of the field of powder metallurgy and magnetic materials. On the final day, the cultural program included visits to two UNESCO World Heritage sites, "Mathildenhöhe" and "Grube Messel". Dr. Thorsten accompanied us and introduced us to many fascinating aspects of German culture.
