材料科学特別研修Ⅰ

理学研究科物理学専攻 Pangさん

For Material Science Special Seminar Ⅰ, I joined ELyT school (Engineering and Science Lyon Tohoku) in Lyon this summer. Lyon is a wonderful city and I experienced ten dreamy days there.

The schedule of ELyT school is a little hard but quite interesting. We always had lectures and student presentations at morning. The lectures given by professors from both France and Japan covered many fields, for example, renewable energy, tribology, robots and metal jointing etc. It is difficult to understand the lectures of new fields totally. However, the lectures are helpful for me to see what is happening in engineering and science, in human, in the world. In student presentation, every student in ELyT school introduced himself(herself) and his(her) research works. They are extraordinary and interesting persons with curiosities, hobbies and skills of multi-language speaking, in which two Chinese students can speak good Japanese, a Japanese student can speak good Chinese, one Chinese student can speak good French and one French student can speak good Japanese. French students are very interested in Japanese culture and most of them are learning Japanese. There were also French learning lectures for students from Tohoku university, where we learnt little simple French like “Bonjour!”.

In the afternoon, we visited the experimental laboratories in INSA LYON and CENTRALE LYON. To increase the corporation between students from different countries and different research backgrounds, we were divided into four groups and processed the 4 projects with different subjects, At the end of ELyT school, four groups presented the results of corporation.
Besides the academic activities, we also obtained opportunities to explore Lyon. French students guided us to visit the churches, take a walk at downtown and have a picnic in the park or along the river. We also visited a new district with professional guide, where a lot of energy saving buildings are built. I was impressed by the beauty of Lyon and some French styles like seating down at anywhere, having meals under strong sunlight etc.
Another interesting experience is about French food. Student restaurant of INSA provided delicious food for us. luckily, we were invited to have traditional French meal that is very heavy, includes appetizer, main dish and dessert. We discussed wide topics with French students, for example how they keep slim body with eating so much.

In one word, ELyT school is a quite happy and meaningful experience for me. During the ten days, I increased my knowledge, widened my horizon and more importantly, made many new friends.
