材料科学特別研修Ⅱ

理学研究科物理学専攻 Pangさん

I spent 4 months in ANSTO for the purpose of learning neutron techniques and performing my own experiment. ANSTO, unlike universities, is not an education institute principally, so there is no Ph.D. student belong to ANSTO. However, the instrument scientists could co-supervise students in some universities. Before I came to ANSTO, I submitted proposals to apply beam time and instruments for my research. Luckily, I got some beamtime to carry out my experiment. Besides, I followed several experiments carried out in Taipan, and learned a lot of knowledge of triple axis spectrometers and other instrument scientists in ANSTO.

Different from the cold winter in Sendai, Australia was in summer during my visiting. It’s my first time to have two summers within one year. And I experienced the hot Christmas, New Year, and Chinese New Year for the first time. Another nice thing for me is that there are a lot of wild birds in the city. I can see cockatoos, Australian magpies, and rainbow lorikeets just in the backyard of the house I lived in. Some residents feed the birds who come to their houses, and the birds and people can recognize each other.
