The GPMS program has the main aim of encouraging Joint research, joint lecture, joint symposium to foster future collaborations both within and outside Japan. Some Universities are already signed up for joint collaborations and TUD (Technische Universitat Darmstadt) Germany is one of them.

Recently, a team of 8 GPMS scholars (with one staff inclusive) left Japan to Germany for a 3 day trip aimed at initiating possible future collaborations. This was also an avenue for me to bond and know other Gpms scholars from other departments.

On the first day, we all went to the school and was duly briefed by one of our host professor in Material science. After which he helped us locate our respective host professors for intended collaboration in our field of study. Prior to our arrival, we were informed to prepare a 30 minute presentation about our work and the programme. I presented to my host professor who happens to be in the department of Chemistry.

The second day, a comprehensive tour round the material science department was conducted to help show us the different laboratories and their research interests. After this we were guided by a Darmstadt based tour guide around the beautiful city.

The third and last day was for sighting also. Those of us leaving for Japan had an evening flight and so we travelled by train to Frankfurt city and I went to the Museum shortly before leaving for the airport.

From Frankfurt we left for Japan. On my arrival, when I went to my laboratory my professor was really impressed at the impact of the trip on me. It was indeed a productive journey and an avenue to travelling to Germany too.

In conclusion, the GPMS program is a highly recommended one for everybody especially young researchers who are starting off and need to interact effectively with older researchers, both within and outside Japan.
